Under Carriage Specifications
The old Comanche was known for
undercarriage problems due to bad or poor maintenance
and also a very intricate system, especially the gear
emergency extension. What I have come up with is the
following. The pushpull cables were removed and the
typical Beachcraft Pushrod Bellcrank system was
implemented. The electrical motor actuator has been
replaced with a linear hydraulic actuator system. This
reduces the intricacy of the emergency gear extension.
3x Gastruts of approximately 40 psi were also used to
increase independent overcentre pressures, whereas old
Comanches had two tiny springs on the two main gears.
The trunion system is very much a standard Piper system,
except for upper trunions which are completely made of
hydraulic tubing and welding. This is all done
in-house.
